It's time, it's time! Class of 2011, we're looking for you! We are now accepting applications for 2011 senior spokes models. Our models receive free sessions, earn all kinds of cool stuff and of course, receive VIP treatment. For both of the past two years, we've had models place in a national contest (one won an amazing trip to strut the catwalk in a Vegas fashion show) as well as work as a model for other companies. Thanksgiving- what a beautiful holiday! One day set aside for the sole purpose of taking time to realize how very blessed we all are. One day could never be enough time for me to really go thru my list of blessings. But here are a few big ones:

-I'm thankful for every little struggle, every misstep. They make me who I am.
-I'm thankful that I get to be an artist for a living.
-I'm thankful for the color of the ocean.
-I'm thankful for the crisp air outside.
-I'm thankful for my books.
-I'm thankful for bestest friends that are more like family with each passing day.
-I'm thankful for my family. (Just look at my mom and dad and baby bro below: aren't they the cutest?)
-I'm so very thankful that God loves little old me, even though I'm far from deserving.

This Thanksgiving day, why not try thinking of a new blessing every hour? What a list you'd have by the end of the day. Full of important things, really important things.On this very special Thursday , enjoy the fall, enjoy your family, enjoy your friends. Enjoy the start of the holiday season, enjoy pulling on that winter coat, enjoying laughing at old jokes. And for heaven's sake, whatever you do, enjoy the turkey, too!

SPA model competition Finalist!

SPA, or Senior Portrait Artists, is an organization for professional photographers that keeps participating studios up to date with all the latest trends in high school senior photography. Every year, they have a model competition and choose 15 seniors from the world to participate in shoots by some of the best photographers in the country as well as to walk the catwalk at SPA's annual fashion show. Last year, we were thrilled to have our entry, Miss Holli Hartman, be one of those special 15. We are so excited this morning to have found out that Kamal Nassif, our entry this year, is one of the finalists. Winners will receive an all-expense paid trip to San Diego. VIP treatment of course! California Wedding Images

My trip to California was actually to help out a friend (that would be Viviana from the shoots I shared with you a few days ago) photograph her first wedding. I think we did a great job and she is well on her way to being a huge success! I stuck with the beautiful bride for most of the day- check out some of my images from before and after the ceremony. I'll be sure and let you know when Viviana's website is up and running so you can see her work.

I didn't get to post as much as I wanted to while I was gone so, I have some catching up to do! Of course, I had a camera in my hand most of the time. Here are a few of my faves from a couple shoots I did for my friend Viviana while staying with her in Palo Alto. We shot everywhere: in San Fran, at the beach in Monterey and in Palo Alto itself. Of course, I thoroughly enjoyed her doggies Matty and Kodi. Thanks, Vivi for an amazing time!

As some of you know, I flew into San Fransisco last night. I will be co-shooting a wedding in a few days, taking in the sights and visiting a friend. What an amazing first day yesterday was! I got here (still in the morning, California time), hugged my friend, met the bride, saw the church, saw the mansion where the reception will be, and as a special surprise, got to see Wicked! What a beautiful show and great first day. Needless to say, I slept really well last night! I will be keeping you updated on my trip and all of my little adventures. I had such a great time with Jordan, her sister Morgan and her mom. I knew Jordan and I would get along famously when I found out how important her heels are to her and that her favorite actress is Audrey Hepburn. She even went to Tiffany's in NYC in homage to the classic movie. Jealous! We had to dodge a few raindrops this past weekend but it was definitely worth it. Family photos are so important. They help us all to remember who we are, where we come from and what our greatest accomplishments in life really are. I think family portraits are especially important for high school seniors and their moms and dads. Family dynamics are going to change as young adults are leaving home for the first time and a photo that captures this transition will be a treasure for years to come. Meet Natasha, our lovely Salado spokesmodel. We went downtown bright and early this past weekend to beat the heat and had so much fun shooting in several locations, including some new ones. I just loved the marque at the Paramount theater (ET and Raiders of the Lost Ark are playing now). We ended up at the Airstream cafes on Congress. Too bad we were there before they opened- I was dying for a sno cone! Thanks so much, Natasha for an amazing shoot. I can't wait for our studio session this weekend!

Today I bought myself a gift- a brand new sketch pad full of lovely blank pages. I've decided that along with taking a picture every day with my camera, I'll be doing a little sketch every day. It felt really good to get back to my artistic roots, even if only a very small way (the drawing is only about 2" wide). Of course, the first sketch had to be of some of my favorite things: BOOKS!

New Series

We just had a fun 4 hour studio shoot yesterday with Holli and one of our newest 2010 models, Lladira, yesterday. We'll have images for you to see of our 2010 models soon but for now, I'll give you a little peek into some personal work that Holli was kind enough to help me with. I'm working on a series inspired by 60's fashion photography and am so having fun! If you think you'd like to be included in the series, let me know- I love seeing new faces. Imagine seeing yourself on life-sized banners, water bottles and programs at an international photographers' convention in Las Vegas. Our Hutto senior model Holli doesn't have to imagine- she experienced it first hand! We sent her comp card to SPA along with a few other images and she ended up being one of only 15 chosen in the world to model at the SPA Event. She won an all expense paid trip to Red Rock spa resort in Las Vegas and received VIP treatment while there. Here are a few pictures of some of her once-in-a-lifetime souvenirs from her trip. FYI- if you're a 2010 graduate and are photographed by us, you have the option of being entered in Senior Portrait Artists's annual contest as long as your session takes place by September 1st. Book today to make sure you'll be eligible. Next year's convention will be in sunny California!

We found the coolest crumbling building to do Yandi's shoot in, complete with graffiti. Yandi was great to work with- a real natural in front of the camera! We really enjoyed being out in the bright sunshine and creating some cool images.

Wrestling Alligators

Did I ever tell you about the time we wrestled alligators on an engagement shoot? OK, you got me- we didn't wrestle them. But we did see four and Edith jumped about a mile in the air when I pointed one out to her a few inches from her foot. You see, Kia and Terry are way into conservation, actually Kia's degree is in line with that, and they were just dying to have their shoot in the Everglades. What is a scary, alligator-infested swamp to some people is a romantic hot spot to others. Anyway, Kia and Terry were absolutely amazing, funny and so very brave! (And not afraid to get in the water, I might add). Our best to you, guys!

Our Ribbon-Cutting

Hello, Stranger

It's been a while since our last post- much too long! But so much has been going on that we'll have plenty to tell you over the next few days.

I just want to take a moment to thank all of those of you who have expressed sympathy for me and my family for the loss of my grandfather. He was a very special person who gave his family so, so much. All of your prayers and kind words were very much appreciated by all of us.

While home with my family, I was able to capture some of the small things that had a place in Grandpa's life: his junk drawer, his watch, what he saw every night as he fell asleep. These tiny details that often just sit on a shelf, unnoticed by most of the world, have the power to effortlessly bring memories to mind that may have otherwise been forgotten.

In this new year, take a moment to look carefully around you and simply remember.

Bienvenidos a Panamá

As a many of you know, I was in Panama for a week. I need to say that vacation time just ROCKS! The very first day I felt worried because I was doing nothing! But I got used to it pretty quickly and began enjoying my stay at the Cameron Royal Hotel. It was all food and drinks inclusive- NICE!

Panama is just gorgeous! I wish I could go every year. I thinks it reminds me PR. It's really nice, humid, rains all the time and the people are really cool. I came to realize that my family, friends and I we all are really Loud and Noisy, BUT really really funny. We don't stop laughing all the time. A lot of Fun.

Finally this is the most exciting part: I TOOK A LOT OF PICTURES!!! The places I visited were the Panama Canal, Valle de Ánton: Zoo and Termal waters + city, Penonome (city), Parara Púru Indians, Panama City Old world and New World. Homecoming Queen Jorden

Who's that? Is it... why yes it is- Hutto High School's 2008 homecoming queen Jorden! We had such a great time with Jorden and her mom, snapping some pix, laughing and wrangling livestock. We started here at the studio, took a trip to Bartlet (an amazing Old West town), stopped by Jorden's dad's to take some shots with Jorden's horse and ended up in downtown Hutto. My Trip to Kansas

Yep, I'm a Kansas girl. Have been summarily given the nickname Dorothy on occasion and been asked, "Where's Toto?" more than a few times. I don't mind, heck- I'm proud. There's no sky bigger than a Kansas sky, no place you can get so excited about tornadoes and no place better to watch the wind blow cloud shadows across the prairie grasses. I just got back from an awesome road trip there and thought you might like to see some of my images. While it was great to see my friends and family again, I'm glad to be hard at work back in Texas!

Hey guys- this is a week we've looked forward to for a long time. Edith's off to Panama -we left at 4 am so we could make her 6:00 flight in San Antonio! We are so glad that today Kindra and I joined the Hutto Chamber of Commerce. There, we met these 2 fabulous ladies that helped us to fill out papers and explain to us the benefits of being members.

We can't wait to meet all the other members and to go to all the chamber activities in the community.

Cabin Fever cured!

After being stuck behind the computers for weeks, we diagnosed ourselves with cabin fever and decided to find a cure. We hopped in the car and headed to a Texas town we hadn't been to yet- Fredericksburg. It is a gorgeous town with the cutest shops. We'll definitely have to go back soon and check out some of their festivals.The drive is beautiful, too with many roadside vegetable stands and artists' booths. We came across a herd of deer on the way- so pretty! And we had to stop at the Circle E Candle showroom- they have about a million scents. My nose is tired just thinking about it. Cabin Fever cured!

The Dollar Theater Rocks!

We just wanted to take a moment to say... we LOVE Cinemark 8, otherwise known as the Dollar Theater. How can you not love seeing movies for, at most, 2 bucks? If you haven't been there, you need to go. Movies on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday as well as Friday matinees are $1.50. Weekends are $2 and Wednesdays (our new favorite day of the week) are only $1. Yep, one dollar. Yeah, the movies have been out a while but if you wanna change of pace from seeing a rental on your TV at home, there's no better place. Click here to see what's playing.

Our Pennsylvania Senior

Ali visited us from Oil City, PA, and allowed us to create her senior portraits. She and her sisters were so much fun to photograph! We started in the studio and then headed to downtown Austin (quickly becoming a favorite destination for our seniors) where Ali was the star for the afternoon. Hello everyone!

It was a very sunny Sunday! All the energy was there for her senior shoot! The day was perfect, the only thing was missing: GAS.

On Sunday our latest high school senior from Hutto High School, Jorden ran out of gas on the way to the studio. Right after she called, we were on our way to rescue her and have the first adventure of the day! Her shoot was amazing, everything worked just right: wardrobe, location and most Important: Jorden. This girl is a Blast and you will soon see it in her pics!

The Boardwalk on the Jersey Shore

Our friend from Hallmark (the photography school we went to, not the card company) invited us to visit her in New Jersey. We didn't get to stay long enough but she definitely showed us a good time at the boardwalk on the Jersey shore. We rode the rides, ate pizza and had so much fun that we didn't want to leave. Fall!

I woke up yesterday, opened the back door and thought to myself, what is this? Could it be.. yes, I think it is- fall! So thrilled was I that I made a cup of coffee, opened all the windows and sat watching the sunrise and thinking thoughts of tiny ghosties and goblins, frosted pumpkins and turkeys. Fall not only brings crisp morning air, cozy evenings with friends and warm apple cider, but it brings also the promise of holiday cheer and the celebration of the greatest miracle of all time. I know, I know, the weather man says it won't last, we'll be back to hot Texas summer before long. But for now, I will drink my cappuccino, light my pumpkin candle and enjoy the open windows.
